Emergency First Aid at Work

This course meets the requirements to fulfil the need for an emergency first aider in the workplace and is also suitable for other groups such as activity groups, voluntary organisations and community groups.

Meets employers obligations and is in line with health and safety (first aid) regulations 1981

This is day 1 of the 3 day First Aid at Work course.

  • The qualification has 6 assigned guided learning hours exclusive of breaks.  The minimum classroom contact time of 6 hours can be delivered in 1 day or can be completed over a maximum of 4 weeks ensuring that each session is a minimum of two hours. 

    Course timings can be discussed to suit your needs.

    There is a blended option which consists of 4 hours face to face teaching time and 2 hours online learning which must be done prior to the face to face session.

    • What is first aid and the responsibilities of a first aider

    • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty

    • Resuscitation and use of a defibrillator

    • Minor injuries

    • Wounds and bleeding

    • Choking

    • Burns

    • Seizures

    • Shock

  • The qualification is assessed by the instructor through practical demonstration and oral questioning throughout the course and full attendance is required.  There is no grading of the assessment, a certificate will only be issued if the criteria has been successfully met.

    Due to the practical nature of the assessment there are physical demands. Learners must be able to get to the floor unaided and successfully demonstrate all required elements of the practical assessment on their own, with the casualty on the floor, as in a real-life situation. For example, a learner will need to get to the floor unassisted and demonstrate effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a manikin at floor level.

    Refunds will not be issued if a participant is not physically able to complete the assessment.

  • The qualification is available to those aged 14 or over but a person cannot be a designated first aider in the workplace until they are 16. 

    Participants must be fluent in English.

    Full attendance of the course is a requirement to pass.

    Participants should be physically fit and injury-free in order to participate in the assessment process.

  • Certificates are electronic and will be sent once payment for the course is received if booking a whole course.  Individual participants will have their certificates within 48 hours.

    This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA). 

    FAA is an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and SQA Accreditation and the qualification sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). 

    The qualification is delivered, assessed, quality assured and delivered and assessed in accordance with the current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines. 

    The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement.
    It is strongly recommended by the Health and Safety Executive to attend annual refresher training. 

    The HSE guidance states that on expiry of the qualification a first aider is no longer considered competent to act as a first aider in the workplace. 

    To re-qualify learners will need to complete the full 6-hour course again.
